Short Rhyming Poems
Short rhyming poems can be “out of this world.”
Cassiopeia
Up in the sky The dipper dips Into the Northern Sea.
While in the East Dear Cassy sits A sprawlin’ like a three.
Robert Ogden
This constellation can be seen here in Florida in late November and early December in the night sky in the North directly over the North Star (Polaris) around 8:30 looking like the letter “M.” The dippers are under the horizon and out of site then. All three are circumpolar constellations that revolve in a short circuit around the North Star.
In September she can also be seen in the early evening hours after dark. At this time the Big Dipper, to the west of the North Star, is just going down under the horizon in a counter clockwise rotation, and its handle (three stars) is still showing. Cassy is east of Polaris emerging from below the horizon in the same counter clockwise trek. Here she leaves her "W" appearance as shown in the graphics on this page and becomes the number "3."
