Short Funny Poems

Volleyball

She served the ball
A laser beam
Much to opponent’s dread.

She didn’t see
Their one-ball flash
And hit her on the head.

Many times a server in volleyball will lapse in concentration after serving the ball. Occasionally, she will forget to step onto the court and cover the area vacated during her turn of service. But another less obvious error is when she and her teammates expect the other team to use all three of its hits in an attempt to return the ball over the net.

Once in a while, to change the tempo of the game and to catch opponents off guard, a team will cut short their three attempts by hitting their first hit over the net. This is called a one-ball and is most commonly used when serve reception is breaking down due to a very good server.

A one-ball will usually surprise opponents though doesn’t usually win a point outright. But once in a great while, when the one ball is directed right back at the server’s area, the server is caught sleeping and the ball lands in her coverage area before she gets back onto the court losing the point for her team. Funny, though rare is seeing her panic to save the one-ball, misjudge the shot as she dives, and watch the ball careen off of her head.
