Sad Poems

Sad poems spotlight different areas of our lives. Here is one about the acute loneliness felt during the Christmas holiday season.

Christmas Alone

Alone this year
My heart is sore
Without you by my side

At Christmas time
The hurt is keen
My feelings amplified.

Robert Ogden

While I enjoy the Christmas season, especially as it approaches, with thoughts of spending time with family and friends, my joy is tempered when I think about those who are spending their time alone.

I’ll be singing Christmas carols in church, and as I glance around, I’ll spot a widow who has to spend her holidays without her husband. The many years they spent together sharing their souls with each other offer many memories for her, but memories don’t take the place of a living, breathing companion.
