Sad Love Poems

Is there anything sadder than sad love poems? Love is so precious that it makes related sadness more poignant.

Heartbreak

The world was mine,
My dreams came true
Until he went away.

He said, “Goodbye,”
And broke my heart,
And left that fateful day.

Robert Ogden

Most of us have experienced disappointment in love. Whether we encountered disloyalty from our loved one or gradually developing apathy, the let down from our initial infatuation is traumatic. We ask ourselves, “What now?”

The loneliness and emptiness that engulfs us is fierce. At first, emotional paralysis sets in. The sense of worthlessness accompanying rejection brings our initiative to a halt. Life just grinds to an emotional halt until we can extricate ourselves from the funk.

One sure way to resume normal living is to substitute a new lover for the old. I can’t say that this is the best way…changing time after time with no end in sight doesn’t promote marital bliss…but it undeniably has short range healing properties.
