Memorial Day Poems

Memorial day poems challenge us to remember where are freedoms come from.

Barbeque

The barbeque
And family time,
The outings, oh so nice,

Are freedoms shared
While honoring
The brave ones’ sacrifice.

Robert Ogden

Freedoms we enjoy were paid for with a price. Without putting anyone on a guilt trip, we all should reflect on why we are free to celebrate with family and friends on this special day.

Some holidays are about less austere themes than death and are more easily recognized for more than just a day off of school or work. And while many fervently take part in festivities honoring those who gave their lives for our country, the temptation is to not think about why we have this holiday, but to just go ahead and enjoy it.

Let’s do it right. Let’s take a moment to say a prayer for the families of those who made this day and our freedoms possible.
