Halloween Poems
Halloween poems stir interesting thoughts about the holiday.
Halloween
The fun, the food, The many treats, The face behind the mask,
Are tempered by Their safety which Bring parents to the task.
Robert Ogden
Halloween is a mixed time for children and parents. As you can see at
Wikipedia
Halloween is closely associated with All Saint’s Day. The first is on October 31, and the second on November 1.
However, Halloween has darker roots than appear in Wikipedia. Traditional Christianity reports that the druids of the British empire hundreds of years ago used to go from castle to castle on All Hallowed Eve demanding a human sacrifice, usually a young, female virgin. If rejected, a curse was placed on the castle and someone would die that evening of fright.
If satisfied, the druids placed a jack-o-lantern with a candle made of human fat outside the castle to ward off the demonic, fright-causing spirits.
I know, I know...most people just see this holiday as an innocent night out for the kids to collect candy. That’s fine. But for some it’s too associated with historical evil to fit into our comfort zone. Halloween certainly has a checkered past and gives cause for people to question their participation.
