1st Birthday Poems

1st birthday poems are unique. They offer congratulations to a special bundle of joy who is arriving at the first stop in the journey of birthday celebrations.

1st Birthday

Your smiles, your looks,
Your actions have
Our hearts completely won.

May God now bless
Your second year,
Our precious little one.

Robert Ogden

I’m dedicating this poem to my granddaughter Megyn Avonlea Ogden (parents Bobby and Betsy). As I write this on Labor Day morning (September 7, 2009), we are within a week of her first birthday (September 12). She is my first granddaughter and precious to us all.

Her claim to fame, so far, is contorting her face just for the fun of it. She reminds me of “Jack Jack” on the movie ”The Incredibles” though, praise the Lord, we don’t have to deal with her infantile use of super powers.

You may have noticed her middle name, Avonlea. Betsy is a huge “Anne of Green Gables” fan even traveling to Prince Edward Island as part of her high school graduation gift.

Here is Betsy reading the poem at "Meggie's" party.

A tired Megyn finally waved good bye after the poem was read. It was a special time for us all. The weather was threatening but held beautifully actually cooling off a hot Florida Saturday.
